beminimal Hotel

The hotel is in a really nice and safe residential area with lots of apartments nearby. It's a very short walk to the Plaza, so great for anyone attending an event there. The staff are very friendly, and the apartments/rooms themselves are very well equipped, with comfortable beds, smart TVs and kitchen equipment to be able to cater for yourself if you like. The cafe area in the lobby serves breakfast, and you can choose eggs or pancakes, with a side serving of fruit, a fresh orange juice and a coffee. It's a very relaxed place, and I'd definitely stay there again as I found it great value for money.

Great space to live and sleep, with nearby supermarkets and walking access to Unicentro Mall. What really stands out is the reception and restaurant staff who made us feel at home. I loved the WhatsApp connection with front desk that made.me.feel connected and safe. Access to bedrooms also felt very secure with codes instead of a card. The bed, living and bathroom areas were kept very clean with daily room service.

It's not a Marriott - but it's not intended to be. So, comparing it to other hotels in this same genre, Beminimal is excellent - especially if you have anything to do at Plaza Mayor. A short 5-min walk meant we didn't have to depend on or wait for taxis/Ubers. The bed was comfortable. Housekeeping was excellent. I was in a "Positivo" room and it was very quiet. Someone staying in a room on the other side said they heard the highway. We didn't. There are plenty of electrical outlets. The rooms and hotel are stylish and the layout encourages people to use the common area.

This hotel showcases the amenities every traveler desires: 1) ideal location with beautiful scenery but without the dreaded all night noise of the party neighborhoods. 2) rooms are completely clean with efficient and comfortable designs. 3) try to get a room in the higher floors with a balcony facing the mountains. The night air is so refreshing and the twinkling lights on the mountain are magical. 4) They serve delicious breakfasts with pastries, eggs, yogurt, etc. Of course, it wouldn’t be Colombia without a full coffee bar with the skilled staff to match. 5) But the most extraordinary aspect of Beminimal is the staff. Every single staff member I met there treated me with kindness and warmth. They were friendly from the moment I booked the hotel 3 months in advance, through my last morning there. My Spanish is ok but they made me feel comfortable practicing with them. Additionally, they can communicate with you in English in person, via chat, or phone. It’s the best of both worlds. Rarely do the people working at the place you stay deeply impact your whole traveling experience. To me, they became my friends. I learned so much about the country and culture. Myself and my belongings were always well looked after. Beminimal and its staff are the best ambassadors for Colombia. As an American, before I visited the country, I heard so many things. I wasn’t sure what I would find upon arrival in Medellín. Now, I regard my time there as some of the best days of my life. It truly reinvigorated me after living so long in a much colder western culture. Do yourself a favor. Do not fall for the trap of hiding in the El Poblado neighborhood full of wealthy foreigners. You don’t need to fly all the way to Colombia to merely remain with the same people, foods, languages, and cultures that you have back home. Challenge yourself to put more trust in the Colombian people. Most of the danger in Colombia can be avoided very simply.
